Resilience that inspires

Behind every Student of Promise is a story of perseverance. Whether navigating financial or housing instability, the loss of a loved one, personal health challenges, or another obstacle, these students continue to pursh forward, demonstrating strength, determination and character along the way.

Each year, the Foundation for Clovis Schools honors 16 high school juniors as Students of Promise. The recognition celebrates these students' commitment to their education and perseverance through challenges that might discourage others, while providing a $2,000 scholarship to support their post-secondary goals after graduation.

“They have faced difficult circumstances with courage while continuing to excel and make a positive difference in their schools and communities. We are proud to recognize their accomplishments and invest in the bright futures they are workign so hard to build," said Foundation Chairperson Josh Phanco.

Past recipients of Students of Promise scholarships have gone on to pursue meaningful careers in education, counseling, nonprofit organizations, law enforcement and many other fields and trades – carrying with them the same determination and commitment that first earned them this recognition.

Announced this year was the addition of The Tom & Dorothy Lutton Memorial Scholarship. Beginning in 2027, seniors who were honored the previous year as Students of Promise can apply for this $10,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a student who embodies the high integrity and tireless work ethic exemplified by former CUSD employee Tom Lutton.
